How to shred plastic sprues and tanks
Cleaning up the world seems to be the mission statement of our client from the Marche region, who, through their commitment to ecological area management services, separate waste collection, and waste disposal, aims to promote actions related to reducing consumption and pursuing recycling.
And where to start if not with plastic? Indeed, but how to shred plastic sprues and tanks without spending a fortune, they wondered?
No sooner said than done
With this problem, they turned to SatrindTech’s sales engineering department, which boasts countless plastic shredding applications in the most varied shapes, sizes, and types, and has plenty of ideas and solutions on how to shred plastic sprues and tanks.
We proposed a shredder to the client that had been traded in from a previous supply: a K series 2-shaft shredder, 30 HP electric motor, with a 1,500 mm grinding chamber and a mix of 1-hook and 4-hook blades, 50 mm thick.
Shredding sprues and tanks always poses the problem of the material’s floating effect on the blades; due to its shape, the material is not caught by the blade hooks and consequently remains bouncing in the hopper without being shredded.
In this case, the supply is equipped with a pneumatic rather than a hydraulic presser, which, like the shredding body, was traded in from a previous supply and reconditioned.

Here is how to shred plastic sprues and tanks starting from a certified pre-owned machine.
Certified pre-owned
SatrindTech guarantees used and fully reconditioned shredders, acquiring them from its customers whenever the opportunity arises.
The shredders are completely disassembled and meticulously analyzed by our technical assistance department. All damaged and worn parts are replaced, and the blades are resharpened; this allows a machine, even one over 10 years old, to return to the market for a similar lifespan, backed by SatrindTech’s warranty and assistance.
The image below gives an idea of the initial condition of the shredder traded in from a previous supply and used in this application. Shredders are sometimes used in particularly heavy-duty applications, but this does not prevent them from being restored to excellent operating conditions after reconditioning.
