Two-shaft shredders for 1,000-liter IBC containers in Spain

SatrindTech two-shaft shredder with CL system for controlled-size shredding of IBC containers operating in Spain

A Spanish manufacturer of HDPE IBC containers and drums based in Catalonia has chosen SatrindTech to implement its recycling line for defective containers.

The request received by our Sales Department was to replace their previous SatrindTech two-shaft shredder, in operation since the mid-90s, in order to now obtain a consistent material size after shredding.

IBC containers are HDPE containers with a volume of approximately 1 cubic meter which, placed inside a metal cage, are used in numerous industrial sectors (from oil and gas to food, medical to chemical, etc.) for the storage and transport of liquids or similar products.

The model acquired by the client is a two-shaft shredder from the K 25 HP series with 50 mm thick 4-hook blades and a 1-meter shredding chamber produced with the CL system.

This counter-blade system, patented by SatrindTech, allows for the conversion of a two-shaft shredder model—which normally only allows for volume reduction (and therefore irregular sizing) of the treated material—into a machine capable of shredding materials to a predetermined size.

A fixed counter-blade located under the blades, together with screens placed under the machine’s shredding chamber, allows for a continuous shredding process until the material can be expelled from below once the required size is reached.

IBC containers are a type of material for which the use of a special hopper, called an angular hopper, is recommended. This ensures that the material, with its typically cubic shape, can slide into the machine at a 45° angle relative to the blade axis, thus facilitating the grip by the blades.

The configuration chosen by our client will allow them to process one IBC container per minute, obtaining a final size of the treated product of approximately 50×50 mm.
