The shredding of paper towel selvedges and trimmings

Selvedge, selvage, or edge? There isn’t a single hashtag on most social media platforms that references these nouns. Even Wikipedia isn’t much help. Fortunately, the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia comes to our rescue.
Our Italian client certainly doesn’t need an encyclopedia; they know all about selvedges and paper towels and produce them in large quantities. They must have so much that it constitutes a disposal and production waste recovery problem, as they turned to us to help them with the shredding of paper towel selvedges and trimmings.
How we solve the problem
After careful consideration, why not offer one of the evergreen workhorses of our production: an F-series 15 HP electric 2-shaft shredder with 30 mm 4-hook blades. However, the client wants to feed the shredder not with one, but with two loading conveyors in sequence.
So, we designed a special hopper suitable for integration into the client’s production line. Naturally, the support frame was also adapted to their needs and, last but not least, the control logic followed suit: the conveyors are timed to the operation of the blade-holder shafts.
But that wasn’t all. The material discharge in the hopper below the shredder is equipped with a pair of photocells capable of detecting an “overfill” and automatically stopping the shredding of the paper towel selvedges and trimmings. This allows the suction system to empty it so the shredding process can resume.
The machinery is thus extremely compact and does not even need to be disassembled for shipping and installation. It is ready to be positioned in the line, connected to the power supply, and started. It couldn’t be easier!
