A self-adhesive label shredder
Do you remember the legendary Panini stickers? Who could forget them. Certainly no one, except industry professionals, thought about what to do with the production line waste from the stickers.
However, a client of ours from the Vicenza area asked this question, as they wanted to reuse the waste from self-adhesive label production and prevent it from being unproductive or even a cost. Therefore, they set out to find a self-adhesive label shredder.
The Supply
Based on the volumes of label waste, we determined that a K25 series 2-shaft shredder with 25 HP electric motor would suit their needs. The shredder, with a grinding chamber of 1,008 x 700 mm, is equipped with 50 mm thick single-hook blades. Thus, we adapted an industrial shredder into a self-adhesive label shredder.

The supply is completed by a reinforced truncated-cone loading hopper and a support frame with perimeter protective nets and access gates to the discharge area, for replacing the shredded material collection container.
Simple, right?
All in all, a routine supply, except that the devil is in the details.
Because self-adhesive labels, being adhesive, stick to the hopper walls and blades, and thus many would not be shredded—goodbye productivity and self-adhesive label shredder.
To overcome this problem, the supply is equipped with a washing system using a special detergent solution: a pressurized tank feeds two nebulizers positioned in the hopper.
During the shredding cycle, managed by a programmable logic controller (PLC), the detergent is automatically sprayed into the hopper at regular intervals, thus preventing the labels from adhering where they should not. Simple indeed!
Like most of our supplies, this one also meets Industry 4.0 requirements.
